Justin Wojkiewicz purchased the restaurant at 2977 State 32 in Pittsfield from his grandfather in 2017 when he decided he wanted to give the restaurant and bar industry a shot.

Eight years later, Wojkiewicz said the restaurant’s fish fry Fridays are its most popular day of the week.

Buck’s has always offered fish-fry dinners, but when Wojkiewicz took over, he said he made a few changes.

“Fish fries have been at Buck’s for quite some time but we changed it up and it’s really taken off,” Wojkiewicz said. “We added a few things, like frog legs, and we created the seafood platter that’s got a little bit of everything to give customers the chance to try all of our fish.”

Buck’s fish-fry dinners, only available from 4 to 9 p.m. on Friday, have earned it high praises from our readers.

“Walleye is fantastic, tender and moist,” said reader Gina Younkle. “Potato salad is extremely tasty also.”

“Excellent wait time, a lot of variety on the menu and great prices,” said reader Dawn Culp. “The best fish around.”

What makes Buck’s Bar & Grill’s fish fry so popular?

Wojkiewicz said it’s the portions and freshness that sets Buck’s fish dinners apart from others in the area.

“We batter then bread our fish and it’s very light so you can really taste the fish,” Wojkiewicz said. “We also give decent-sized portions. You can get a good amount of food for not a ton of money.”

All the fish are breaded and fried to order and dinners are served with rye bread, homemade coleslaw and choice of french fries, tater tots, seasoned wedges, mashed potatoes with gravy, homemade potato salad or warm German potato salad.

Fish-fry dinner options include all-you-can-eat walleye, fried haddock, perch, bluegill, fantail shrimp, poor man’s lobster, frog legs and a seafood platter which comes with two walleye, two perch, two haddock and two frog legs or shrimp.

A lunch menu is also available from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. on the same day, all meals are served with rye bread, homemade coleslaw and choice of french fries, tater tots or seasoned wedges. Lunch includes two perch filets, three walleye fillets, six shrimp or a perch sandwich.

“The all-you-can-eat walleye is definitely our most popular,” Wojkiewicz said. “We go through at least 130 pounds every Friday.”

Customers can enjoy all-you-can-eat walleye for $12.95.

“We’re very appreciative of everyone that took time to vote for us as the best fish fry in the area,” Wojkiewicz said. “That was really cool.”
