Speeding leads to multi-vehicle crash in Milwaukee, one dead and several injured

The Milwaukee Police Department is investigating a multi-vehicle crash that started with a speeding driver and ended with one person dead and several people injured.

The crash happened on the 4300 block of North 76th Street at 11:51 p.m. on May 10.

According to police, the first vehicle was traveling at a “very high” rate of speed and crashed into a second vehicle, which had two people inside. The second vehicle was then forced into a parked vehicle, which had one person inside. All three cars had major damage.

The driver of the second vehicle, a 55-year-old, suffered major injuries and died at the scene. The 18-year-old passenger of that vehicle sustained serious injuries and is being treated at a hospital. The 28-year-old occupant of the parked vehicle had minor injuries and is also at a hospital.

The driver of the speeding vehicle, a 32-year-old woman, sustained serious injuries and was arrested at the scene. She was taken to a hospital.

The case will be presented to the Milwaukee County District Attorney’s Office in the coming days, police said. Anyone with additional information is asked to contact Milwaukee Police at (414) 935-7360. To remain anonymous, contact Crime Stoppers at (414) 224-Tips or P3 Tips.

The multi-vehicle crash was the second serious crash of the night on May 10. A 41-year-old driver hit and killed a 90-year-old crossing the street. The driver fled the scene but was later found and arrested.

Milwaukee has long struggled to address reckless driving, though the latest statistics from MPD showed a slight dip in crashes, including hit-and-runs.
