Six female musicians long familiar to Door County concertgoers and music buffs reunite by popular demand for a different kind of concert experience at the Kress Pavilion in Egg Harbor.
It’s Haiku Milieu, an innovative creative community founded by singer-songwriter Jenny Bienemann to offer audiences an immersive artistic experience through music, poetry and collaboration. The performance takes place June 24 and reservations are now available.
Haiku Milieu returns to the Kress after a sold-out concert in March 2025, followed by another performance at the Kress March 13 of this year. Those concerts, as well as the coming June 24 one, are part of the Art of Music concert series, and promoter Terry Lundahl said in an email accompanying the concert press release that she and the Village of Egg Harbor received an “outstanding” amount of requests to bring back the concert during the summer so Door County visitors could experience it as well as residents.
The Haiku Milieu concert features one song by each artist, followed by a brand-new song inspired by one of Bienemann’s haiku. The idea for Haiku Milieu began with Bienemann pairing a haiku with a photo to stay inspired between writing songs. That evolved into this creativity incubator where poetry is used to spark new music and artistic collaboration.
Joining Bienemann on stage will be singer-songwriters Katie Dahl, Sue Demel, Jess Holland, Jeanne Kuhns and Dorothy Scott, as they did for the previous two Haiku Milieu concerts.
Bienemann, who splits her time between Fish Creek and Oak Park, Illinois, is an award-winning author, poet and songwriter. Her poetry collection “Sundays with Jenny” won the poetry category in both the International Book Awards and New York Book Festival in 2025, and her original songs have been featured in theater, film and television, and has garnered more than 4 million YouTube views.
Dahl, from Baileys Harbor, was named one of six winners of the prestigious 2025 Kerrville Folk Festival New Folk Competition in Texas and is known for her smart, sometimes wry songwriting. Demel, who tours nationally, has performed often in Door County as a solo artist and as a founding member of the Sons of the Never Wrong. Holland is a folk musician raised on rock ’n’ roll whose intimate songs explore everyday human experience.
Kuhns, named Best Female Musician by Door County Magazine, is a singer-songwriter and visual artist who performs solo and with the group Small Forest. Scott was named the Americana Artist of the Year for the 2025 BAMMYs (Bay Area Music Awards) and is known for blending folk, rock, blues, and jazz with soulful vocals and guitar.
Haiku Milieu takes place at 8 p.m. June 24 at the Kress Pavilion, 7845 Church St., Egg Harbor. Tickets are $20. To reserve seats, text 608-837-3141; payment will be taken at the door, For more information, email Lundahl at dragonflystark@gmail.com.
