SHEBOYGAN – The Hmong Summer Festival returns to Kiwanis Park this weekend, with a dance competition, food vendors and more.
The community can attend the celebration, which was canceled last year because of scheduling issues, from 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. on July 18 and 19. The summer festival is the largest Hmong community celebration apart from Hmong New Year.
The event features two days of men’s and women’s flag football and volleyball, with prizes of $400 for third place, $800 for second place and $2,000 for first place. A men’s basketball competition will also be hosted, with a $250 third-place prize, $500 second-place prize and a $1,000 first-place prize.
People can also compete in intermediate, advanced and senior brackets of pickleball. Middle school and high school-aged participates will also compete in a dance competition. The prizes are $800 for third place, $1,800 for second place and $3,000 for first place.
Prize amounts could change if fewer than 14 sports teams compete and fewer than 8 dance teams compete.
A soccer competition was scheduled for the event, but CherPao Vang, chair of the 2026 Hmong Summer Festival, said no teams signed up this year. Only five soccer teams signed up at the last event.
Vendors will also be selling Asian cuisine, fresh fruit and drinks, like bubble tea. Visitors can also check out stands with traditional Hmong clothing, toys and other wares.
What to know before attending Hmong Summer Festival
Entry to the Hmong Summer Festival is $5, but children younger than 3 years old and seniors are free.
Weapons, firearms and alcohol are not allowed. The Tributary Beer Garden will be open, but alcohol should be consumed outside of the festival.
