Riverworks Development Corporation received the 2025 Governor’s Financial Literacy Award at the state capitol on Friday, April 10, for its work educating residents on managing their finances.

“Financial education gives people the tools they need to achieve their goals, expand new opportunities, and help attain financial security for themselves and their families,” said Gov. Tony Evers in a statement about the award, which was selected by the governor’s financial literacy council.
The statewide award was given to 22 recipients in three categories: individuals, organizations, and legacy, which is a lifetime recognition. Riverworks was one of 11 organizations to receive the 2025 honor.
Since 2008, the organization, which primarily serves Harambee and Riverwest, has hosted the Riverworks Financial Clinic, which is a free program that works one-on-one with residents to help them reach their financial goals.
“Every day, we work alongside clients to reduce debt, build credit, increase savings, and navigate complex financial systems,” said Anthony Myers, program manager with Riverworks, in a release.
Counseling is confidential, so participants know their information will not be shared.
The program has been run in partnership with the City of Milwaukee Financial Empowerment Center since 2024, but the clinic is still located at Riverworks on North Holton Street and East Concordia Avenue.
Appointments for financial counseling can be scheduled through the city website, here, or by calling 414-882-7430.
