Publishing election polls is a disservice to readers | Letter

Can we finally put a fork in Marquette poll director Charles Franklin and the Marquette Law School polls?

For the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel to continue publishing these polls is a disservice to its subscribers. On (some of) the major elections, Franklin and his polls have been wrong. But don’t worry, after the fact he can tell us why.

It’s time for Franklin to follow the lead of J. Ann Selzer, the highly regarded Iowa pollster behind the Des Moines Register/Iowa Poll, who in her final poll released before the 2024 presidential election had Kamala Harris leading Donald Trump by 3 points; Trump ultimately won Iowa by more than 13 percentage points.

On Nov. 17, 2024, Selzer announced she was retiring from polling. It’s time for Franklin to retire as well.
