A sign on the doors of the restaurant on Dec. 1 told guests the restaurant closed permanently at 6 p.m. Nov. 30, 2025.

“We regret to announce that this restaurant is permanently closed,” one of the two signs read. “We apologize for any inconvenience and thank you for your many years of patronage.”

The second sign pointed guests to visit the Wisconsin Rapids location at 2311 Eighth St. S.

As of 8:30 a.m. Monday, crews had already removed the Perkins sign from the door and were working to remove the sign standing next to the building.

Perkins has been open at 143 Division St. N. for 40 years.

The Stevens Point Journal announced Perkins would come to Stevens Point in a Sept. 18, 1984, article, telling readers the 24-hour restaurant would stand between McDonald’s and the Roadstar Inn. Groundbreaking was scheduled to start that week, and opening was projected close to March 1, 1985.

In a March 28, 1985, article, the Stevens Point Journal reported Perkins opened with 85 employees, most of them full time. It described a varied menu featuring breakfast, lunch and dinner with a salad bar, seating 155 guests. It also described the large American flag flown at all Perkins sites, flying at 20 by 30 feet at the Stevens Point site, flying over a memorial to local veterans.
