The Green Bay Packers might be without a top playmaker on offense against the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday. Running back Josh Jacobs, who is still battling an illness and then added a calf injury to end the practice week, is questionable to play on Sunday and is considered a “true game-time decision,” per Adam Schefter of ESPN.
Per Ian Rapoport and Tom Pelissero of NFL Media, Jacobs’ has a calf strain and his status for Sunday will be determined pregame, possibly after an on-field workout.
“Jacobs believes he can go,” Pelissero said.
Jacobs played through the illness last week and likely wouldn’t have had a status designation on the final injury report without the new calf injury, which was added on Friday. An injury late in the week, especially one to soft tissue in the lower body, can be difficult to overcome and play.
The Packers have Emanuel Wilson and Chris Brooks as veteran backups, and the team elevated Pierre Strong Jr. from the practice squad, adding more depth and suggesting Jacobs is in danger of not playing Sunday.
Wilson, the primary backup, has rushed 121 times for 586 yards and four touchdowns over the last two seasons. He’s averaged 4.8 yards per carry and has a rushing success rate of 57.9 percent. Brooks is a capable blocker and receiver and could serve in the third down role if Jacobs can’t go and Wilson is the lead back.
Jacobs has 535 total yards in five games to start the 2025 season. He’s rushed 98 times for 359 yards and six touchdowns while also catching 15 passes for 176 yards.
Inactives are due for the Packers and Cardinals by 1:55 p.m. CT on Sunday.
