RICHMOND, IN — Indiana State Police are investigating a Saturday night three-vehicle crash that involved a Richmond police car speeding to the scene of a reported domestic violence incident.
Richmond police said in a release Sunday morning that officers were dispatched to the 1400 block of South B Street on a report about 10:30 p.m. of a “heated physical domestic disturbance” there.
Officers at the scene became involved in a physical altercation with the male suspect, prompting an officer to call for help.
As more officers were called, “an RPD patrol vehicle was involved” in the three-vehicle crash in the 1000 block of South A Street, police said. The patrol vehicle struck the rear of a silver Lincoln MKZ, which then collided with a gold Ford Ranger.
The driver of the Lincoln MKZ, identified as 21-year-old Marcos Paul, and his passenger, 20-year-old Ariel Clarkson, as well as the driver of the Ford Ranger, 20-year-old James Johnson, were taken to Reid Health for evaluation, Richmond police said. The involved RPD officer, who was not named, was also taken for medical evaluation.
All of the people involved were reported to be stable and alert at the time of transport, Richmond police said.
In accordance with department policy, the Indiana State Police have assumed responsibility for investigating the crash, police said. The domestic-battery incident remains under investigation by Richmond police.
