The first practice of training camp for the Green Bay Packers doesn’t arrive until Wednesday, July 23, but the first batch of players are reporting for the start of training camp on Friday.
Quarterbacks, rookies and any players dealing with a previous injury are scheduled to report to training camp in Green Bay on Friday.
Quarterbacks play the most important position on the field and have extra information to digest before the start of practices. Rookies are given a chance to acclimate to surroundings and get into a training routine and schedule before the veterans arrive. And injured players can get treatment and determine if they are ready to participate at the start of camp.
As mandated by the CBA, all players undergo a physical to ensure they are medically cleared before the start of training camp.

Belton is the only unsigned draft pick, but it’s possible his contract situation will be handled by the time practice starts next week. A wave of second-round picks have signed rookie deals in the last few days, so the standoff between teams and second-rounders appears to be ending just in time.
Among the likely injured players are receiver Christian Watson, who is recovering from ACL surgery, linebacker Quay Walker, who didn’t participate during the offseason program, and cornerback Kalen King, who had a cast on his arm during the offseason program.
Other non-quarterback veterans are scheduled to report to training camp on Tuesday, July 22. The first practice is scheduled for a 10:30 a.m. kickoff on Wednesday.
