Packers adding former Auburn GM to personnel role in front office

The Green Bay Packers are expected to add former Auburn general manager Will Redmond to the team’s personnel staff under Brian Gutekunst, according to reporting from Matt Zenitz of CBS Sports and John Brice of FootballScoop.com.

Per Brice, Redmond was already on the ground doing scouting work for the Packers during the Senior Bowl in Mobile. His experience evaluating and recruiting players at the college level in the NIL era will likely make for an easy transition to the NFL level.

Auburn did not retain Redmond as general manager after transitioning from Hugh Freeze to Alex Golesh at coach. Brice reported that multiple SEC and ACC teams were interested in adding Redmond, but he wanted to go the NFL route moving forward.

While the Packers lost Jon-Eric Sullivan to the Miami Dolphins this offseason, Gutekunst said the Packers would wait to reorganize the front office until the draft. At his point, it’s unclear the exact title Redmond will hold in Green Bay.

Redmond, a Tennessee native, arrived in Auburn in 2024 after a stint with LSU, where he was the director of player personnel for the football program beginning in 2021. While with the Tigers, Redmond worked under Brian Kelly as a top recruiting executive, helping the school land future Heisman Trophy winner Jayden Daniels via the transfer portal.

In 2022, FootballScoop.com named Redmond the site’s “Personnel Director of the Year” after he rebuilt the Tigers roster, helping LSU improve from 6-7 in 2021 to 10-4 in 2022. Landing Daniels at quarterback revitalized the program. A year later, LSU won 10 more games and Daniels was the Heisman Trophy winner.

Redmond’s previous experience also includes four years as director of recruiting at Kansas, three years as director of player personnel at Middle Tennessee State and a brief stint as director of player personnel at Western Michigan.
