A cold front is coming. How far will temperatures drop in Milwaukee?

A cold front heading for southern Wisconsin on Tuesday, May 19, is expected to swing temperatures from the upper 70s to the lower 40s overnight.

National Weather Service meteorologist Marcia Cronce said the incoming cold front will lead to “an abrupt change in temperature” across the region.

But there isn’t cause for alarm – unless you’re a gardener, that is. Temperatures may not drop low enough to warrant a frost advisory, but you should still monitor plants when it falls that fast.

The high temperature is expected to hit 75 degrees Tuesday in Milwaukee, then fall to 45 degrees at night.

After the dip, temperatures will hover between 40 and 55 degrees until Saturday, May 19. Frost doesn’t typically form until overnight temperatures are between 33 and 36 degrees.

Thunderstorms are possible Tuesday and Friday, May 22, but Cronce said it’s unlikely the storms will be severe.
