According to the post, the fire department was alerted to the fire at 6:30 p.m. June 18. At the scene, they found a 24-foot fiberglass inboard watercraft fully engulfed in flames and emitting a significant amount of black smoke.

According to the post, a witness reported an explosion had started the fire, but the owner of the boat was able to exit the boat before the fire overtook it.

Since the boat was in the launch area of the marina and not moored with other boats kept in the main area, no other boats were damaged by the incident.

The owner of the boat was able to remove it from the water immediately after the fire was extinguished to avoid any fuel or oil discharge into Lake Michigan.

The Manitowoc Fire Rescue Department was assisted in the incident by Branch Fire Rescue and Two Rivers Fire departments, as well as by the Manitowoc Police Department, the Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources and the City Spill coordinator.
