New design renderings and more information released Aug. 15 paint a clearer picture of the Whitefish Bay Sendik’s Food Market redevelopment that would put a new two-story store on a prominent corner of Silver Spring Drive.
The new site plan documents show a much larger footprint for shopping, a bistro bar, and several gathering spaces for hanging out, according to the agenda for the regular Aug. 18 Village Board meeting.
If all goes according to Sendik’s plans, construction would start in January of 2026 and likely end by September of 2026.
At the meeting, trustees will decide whether to refer a Planned Development District proposal for the 2-acre site to the Architectural Review Commission and Plan Commission. The board will also discuss a developer’s agreement with Sendik’s in closed session.
The Sendik’s proposal would raze two buildings on the northwest quadrant of North Lake Drive and East Silver Spring Drive to construct the new store just east of the grocer’s existing location, which would be demolished and turned into a parking lot.
The new masonry building would be made from tri-colored bricks, decorative canopies, ivy walls, stained wood decking and charcoal-colored standing seam roofs. Each floor would cover around 37,000 square feet, whereas the existing building is around 20,000 square feet.
The redevelopment would also include traffic and pedestrian safety improvements to the nearby area, designed by the village’s engineering services contractor, Clark Dietz.
These improvements include adding traffic signals, a median on East Silver Spring Drive at the intersection of North Hollywood Avenue and creating a pedestrian crosswalk, according to the Aug. 18 agenda.
The parking plan entails a total of 184 spaces, including parking lot and street parking spots.
The store’s expansion plans are part of a major redevelopment plan for East Silver Spring Drive that includes turning the Fox Bay Theater into a mid-sized entertainment venue. Both projects will be supported in part by $2.7 million tax incremental financing district, which the village’s Joint Review Board approved in May 2025.
