Muskego football coach Ken Krause has retired, he announced in a Dec. 19 afternoon post on X, formerly known as Twitter.
“It has been the privilege of a lifetime to coach at Muskego for the past 19 years – 18 of those as your head coach,” Krause wrote in part. “The countless memories and historic accomplishments shared with this community have been a source of immense pride and joy.”
Krause went on to say he will continue to work with the football program by assisting the new head coach and staying active in the weight room. His post continued:
“This decision is driven by a profound desire to spend more time with my family. As many of you know, my sons, Aiden and Ashton, are playing college football and have the possibility of seeing playing time this fall. I want to be able to dedicate my weekends to watching them compete, attending their home and away games. I realize that I would no longer be able to provide the relentless commitment and focus required of a head football coach. The move to teach and coach in the same district as my sons has been incredibly rewarding, and now is the right time to take the next step that is best for my family’s needs,” Krause wrote.
Aiden and Ashton are redshirt freshman at Winona State University, playing linebacker and tight end, respectively.
The announcement concludes a Hall of Fame career twice over for Ken Krause, whose latest induction took place this past spring to the National High School Athletic Coaches Association Hall of Fame. Krause led the Warriors to 14 playoff appearances during his tenure, which accounts for more than half of Muskego’s 26 program total.
Muskego tallied consecutive undefeated WIAA state title seasons in Division 1 in 2018 and 2019, part of a 41-game winning streak through 2021. The Warriors went 33-11 in the playoffs under Krause and won eight Classic 8 Conference titles, including a stretch of five straight from 2018 to 2022.
Muskego reached the WIAA D1 state semifinals in 2025 before falling 38-35 to Bay Port.
Muskego athletic director Ryan McMillen praised Krause’s dedication to the school and football program.
“We thank Coach Krause for a lifetime of leadership, dedication and impact on our community’s football program, and wish him a fulfilling and well-deserved retirement,” McMillen said in an email to the Journal Sentinel. “We look forward to continuing our work with Coach Krause as he shifts into new roles as an athletics program supporter, school advocate and valued community member. Muskego has a proud past and bright future. We are ready to continue the relentless commitment and focus Coach Krause expects from every one of us.”
