Multiple Interstate 41 ramps in Kaukauna will be closed this week, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
They’ll be added to the growing list of active closures connected to the department’s multi-year plan to expand 23 miles of the interstate from four to six lanes between Grand Chute and De Pere, and reconfigure several of its interchanges.
Some ramps are closed through the summer, while others will be closed through fall. Here’s a roundup of the active and upcoming I-41 closures and when they will open up.
Which ramps and lanes off Interstate 41 will close?
What are the detour routes for the road segments?
For I-41’s northbound closures between Wisconsin Avenue and Richmond Street, the DOT recommends taking State 96/Wisconsin Avenue east to State 47/Richmond Street, before turning left and rejoining northbound I-41. For I-41’s southbound and northbound closures at Ballard Road, traffic will be directed to take Ballard Road exit ramps, which will travel across Ballard Road and then reenter I-41.
Which ramps off Interstate 41 are still closed?
The following ramps are already closed:
I-41’s southbound off-ramp to State 96/Wisconsin Avenue closed March 3. and will reopen in the summer. Vandenbroek Road over I-41 in Little Chute closed March 24 and will reopen in the summer.
Why are the Ballard Road ramps closed?
The Ballard Road interchange is being turned into a diverging diamond interchange to accommodate higher traffic volumes and increase safety, adding bicycle and pedestrian accommodations and crash investigation sites as well.
