MANITOWOC – Katrina B. Baur, mother of 3-year-old Elijah Vue, was offered a plea deal in her case that alleges she was responsible for neglecting her son and obstructing officers in their investigation into his disappearance Feb. 20, 2024.
The details of the plea deal are not available to the public.
Baur, 32, was absent for a status conference in her case June 13 at the Manitowoc County Courthouse. She has been charged with felony counts of chronic neglect of a child where the consequence is death, and neglecting a second child. She has also been charged with two misdemeanor counts of resisting or obstructing an officer.
Both the defense and the prosecuting attorneys said they were still reviewing the substantial amount of evidence and reports in Baur’s case, so a new status conference was set for Sept. 26.
Baur is represented by attorney Amber Gratz and her case is being prosecuted by District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre. Judge Anthony Lambrecht is presiding over the case.
Elijah Vue disappeared Feb. 20, 2024, and Jesse Vang, who was caring for Elijah when he disappeared, also faces charges in the case.
Elijah Vue, Baur’s son, disappeared from her boyfriend’s Two Rivers apartment Feb. 20, 2024, sparking a statewide search for the boy who typically lived in Wisconsin Dells with Baur. His skeletal remains were found Sept. 7, 2024, on private property just more than 3 miles from where he disappeared, near a house Baur used to live in with Elijah.
Jesse Vang, 40, was responsible for caring for Elijah for weeks before Elijah was reported missing from Vang’s apartment.
Vang faces felony charges of physical abuse of a child through repeated acts causing death, hiding a corpse and chronic neglect of a child. He was also charged with misdemeanor resisting or obstructing an officer. His next court date is a status conference June 20.
Vang is represented by attorneys Joel Mogren and Jeffrey Jensen and his case is being prosecuted by LaBre. Lambrecht is also presiding over Vang’s case.
Baur and Vang have been incarcerated at Manitowoc County Jail since February 2024 when they were arrested following Elijah’s disappearance.
