Milwaukee drivers, be prepared. Transportation officials have announced two more ramp closures starting Dec. 15 as part of the state’s $1.7 billion Interstate 94 East-West project.
This phase of the years-long construction project has been dubbed the West Leg Segment. It will expand I-94 to four lanes in each direction, reconstruct the Hawley Road Interchange as a half-interchange and reconstruct the 68th Street/70th Street Interchange.
West Leg Segment construction – roughly west of General Mitchell Boulevard – is expected to last until late 2028, though the work is weather dependent and subject to change, according to the Wisconsin Department of Transportation.
What roads will be closed starting the week of Dec. 15?
Beginning overnight Dec. 15, the following I-94 ramps will be closed through March 2026, according to WisDOT:
Beginning in late December and early January, there will be a full closure of Hawley Road at I-94 through 2028.
