MANITOWOC – The Bayshore Drive Trail System on the city’s northeast side by Lincoln Park Zoo is finished and open to the public.
The development connects Lincoln Park with Mariners Trail and includes public paved trails, lighting, a future kayak launch, areas for fishing, benches and a new bridge that connects the trail to the zoo.
Work on the project started last year after the city obtained a $369,400 grant from the State of Wisconsin Knowles-Nelson Stewardship and another $100,000 from the West Foundation. Funding also came from a TIF district. Vinton Construction was the primary contractor and Hubbartt Electric Inc. added the lighting along the trail.
In a Facebook post announcing the opening of the trail last week, Manitowoc Mayor Justin Nickels wrote: “The old Elks Club property on the city’s northeast side has been revitalized. In addition to all the private development, the property owners donated 10+ acres to the City of Manitowoc for trails and public amenities along the Little Manitowoc River. … A beautiful addition to our community! Enjoy!”
