Manitowoc Public Library events include story times, bug lab and chess

MANITOWOC – What’s there to do at the Manitowoc Public Library in the days ahead? Here’s a look!

Attend a story time

Baby Storytime (9:30 a.m. for ages 0-2) and Preschool Storytime (10:30 a.m. for ages 2-5) are offered March 26, April 1 and April 2.

Get employment assistance

The Wisconsin Department of Workforce Development is on site in the Franklin Street Room from 9 a.m. to  4 p.m. each Tuesday offering help writing a résumé, applying for jobs and registering in Job Center of Wisconsin. No appointment is needed!

Explore insects

“Bug Lab: Learn & Create” will be from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Tuesday, March 31, in the Balkansky Community Room. MPL’s younger patrons can sculpt imaginative insects out of air-dry clay. The program blends science and art, encouraging curiosity and creativity through hands-on discovery. It’s geared toward kids in elementary school.

Learn all about chickens

The next Family Activity Night is “Feathered Fun with 4-H” from 6:30 to 7:15 p.m. Tuesday, March 31. Join 4-H for a program all about chickens geared toward ages 5-11. No registration is required.

Teens can take a Shelf Care Box adventure

Sign up for the latest Teen Shelf Care Box for ages 11-18 between April 1 and April 15. These boxes take participants on an adventure through the Manitowoc Public Library’s YA stacks, introducing teens to authors — both popular and unfamiliar — and maybe even diving into the arcane knowledge hidden in the non-fiction section. Sign-up is at www.manitowoclibrary.org/teen-book-boxes. May’s theme is “Beach Ready, Baby!” Each themed box contains three books, a snack, a toy or art project, and stationery to surprise and entertain. Boxes will be available on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last. All that needs to be returned is the box and the books to Manitowoc Public Library and participants get to keep the goodies.

Drop in for chess

The library offers drop-in chess from 6 to 7:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 1, in the Balkansky Community Room. Open to all ages and abilities, but no formal instruction is offered. Chessboards are provided and library materials are available for further learning. No registration is required.
