MANITOWOC – Nathan M. Tollefson, a 43-year-old Manitowoc man, was sentenced to seven years in state prison for delivering the drug that caused an overdose death Feb. 19, 2023.
The criminal complaint states the victim was participating in a drug recovery program at Lotus Recovery Home. On Feb. 19, 2023, they received a ride from a family member to Tollefson’s apartment, where police believe they obtained an illegal narcotic.
Several hours later, after returning to the Lotus Recovery Home, the victim died of an overdose despite being administered multiple doses of Narcan.
Results from NMS Lab confirmed extremely elevated levels of fentanyl in the victim’s blood and an autopsy from the Fond du Lac County medical examiner determined they died from fentanyl toxicity.
Tollefson was convicted of first-degree reckless homicide by delivering drugs during a plea hearing May 19 by Judge Anthony Lambrecht in Manitowoc County Circuit Court. A second charge of delivering fentanyl was dismissed.
He was sentenced by Lambrecht to seven years in state prison Aug. 5 and was ordered to pay $11,143 in restitution. After he completes his prison sentence, he’ll have eight years of extended supervision, which includes conditions such as completing an AODA assessment, maintaining sobriety and submitting to random urine screens.
Tollefson’s case was prosecuted by District Attorney Jacalyn LaBre and he was represented by attorney Aileen Henry.
