The Milwaukee man shot inside Aurora Sinai Medical Center’s emergency room lobby on March 2 has died after being removed from life support, his family’s attorney announced Saturday.
Attorney B’Ivory LaMarr said in a statement that Christopher Robinson Jr., 40, was pronounced dead Saturday, March 7, at Froedtert Hospital. Robinson was an organ donor, and his family is awaiting confirmation on how many people received organs following his death.
Robinson had been shot on March 2 at Aurora Sinai while seeking treatment for a hip issue, according to LaMarr.
The Milwaukee County Medical Examiner’s Office issued a report declaring Robinson dead on the night of the shooting, before Robinson’s family publicly said on March 5 that he remained on life support.
LaMarr confirmed at that time that Robinson had no brain function but that the family was weighing whether to continue life support.
“The Robinson family is grateful for the prayers, love, and support that have poured in from the community and across the nation,” LaMarr said in the statement.
Robinson was one of two men shot that night. The other survived.
A suspect, Ronnell Dwayne Shaw Jr., 38, has been charged with attempted first-degree intentional homicide, first-degree recklessly endangering safety and possession of a firearm by a felon.
According to a criminal complaint, Shaw retrieved a firearm from a garbage can outside the hospital and rolled back through its metal detectors in a wheelchair before opening fire.
Aurora Sinai has fired security staff who failed to use a handheld screening wand, though it remains unclear how Shaw passed through the detectors undetected.
