One of the NFL’s most talented defensive players decided to take a visit to the Kohl Center on Saturday.
Green Bay Packers linebacker Micah Parsons ventured to the state’s capitol to watch his alma mater, the Penn State Nittany Lions, sqaure off against Wisconsin’s men’s hockey program. The No. 8 Nittany Lions secured a 3-1 victory over the No. 5 Badgers with Parsons in attendance, a day removed from their 7-2 triumph over UW on Friday.
During the contest, Parsons stopped to take a photo with Badger linebackers Cooper Catalano and Mason Posa, who are poised to captain UW’s linebacker corps this coming season.
Parsons headlined his tenure with the Nittany Lions with 2019 Butkus-Fitzgerald Big Ten Linebacker of the Year nods and Consensus All-American honors. His success in Big Ten play prompted the Dallas Cowboys to select the linebacker with the No. 12 overall pick of the 2021 NFL Draft, and he would go on to win the 2021 NFL Defensive Rookie of the Year award.
Posa and Catalano, meanwhile, both showed flashes of brilliance during their rookie campaigns with the Badgers. Posa’s 61 tackles, 4.0 sacks and a pair of forced fumbles in 11 appearances netted him FWAA Freshman All-American and Third team All-Big Ten selections.
Catalano, the Wisconsin large school defensive player of the year in 2024, tallied 56 total tackles, 2.0 sacks and 4.5 tackles for loss across 12 appearances. While both may not possess the same ceiling as Parsons, they follow a string of notable linebacker talents to suit up in Madison.
