An early morning fire, likely caused by a lightning strike, displaced three residents and caused an estimated $300,000 in damage to a Town of Delafield home on Aug. 12.
Lake Country Fire and Rescue crews were dispatched at 5:51 a.m. to the 3600 block of Huntsman Court, where fire and smoke were seen coming from the home’s roof when they arrived.
The fire caused extensive damage to a property valued at more than $850,000, according to Waukesha County tax records. Fire officials said three occupants, who had safely evacuated before crews arrived, needed to seek shelter elsewhere in the fire’s aftermath.
One firefighter was taken to a hospital with minor injuries. Crews brought the fire under control by 7 a.m. and remained on the scene for nearly three hours.
The cause of the fire is still being investigated, but a report by LCFR listed a lightning strike as the suspected cause.
Storms with heavy rain and lightning were moving through the area at the time of the fire.
LCFR was assisted by fire departments from the City of Pewaukee, the Village of Hartland and the Village of Merton as well as the Western Lakes Fire Department. The Waukesha County Sheriff’s Department also assisted.
