OSHKOSH – August featured a variety of headlines, with no particular talking point dominating the newsfeed.
Not even the possible introduction of a county sales tax.
Northwestern readers appeared to be interested in a number of business openings, property acquisitions and pending city ordinances, such as the possible expanded use of ATVs and UTVs in Oshkosh and a feasibility study for a joint fire department with the town of Algoma.

Country music stars Jason Aldean and Lainey Wilson to headline XRoads41 festival in 2026
Two of country music’s biggest stars are set to headline the next XRoads41 festival, with multi-platinum singer Jason Aldean and Grammy Award-winning artist Lainey Wilson slated to take the stage for the 2026 show.
Widely regarded as a superstar in the genre, Aldean, 48, has a double-platinum certified album in “Night Train” and four others that have also gone platinum while producing 30 No. 1 singles on the Hot Country Songs and Country Airplay charts.
The 33-year-old Wilson, who is engaged to former NFL quarterback Duck Hodges, won a Grammy Award for the Best Country Album with “Bell Bottom Country” and has nine Country Music Association awards along with 16 Academy of Country Music Awards.
Main Street Bridge in Oshkosh to close for 7 months starting Sept. 2
Wisconsin Department of Transportation announced that the Main Street Bridge on U.S. 45 is scheduled to be closed for seven months starting Sept. 2 to facilitate a $6 million road works project.
The planned construction will see the rehabilitation of electrical and mechanical components of the bridge and the replacement of the steel grid deck.
New Italian restaurant Truffle Pig opens Aug. 24 in historic Oshkosh Northwestern building
Authentic Italian restaurant Truffle Pig announced its much-awaited grand opening for 4-9 p.m. Aug. 24 at the historic Oshkosh Northwestern building, 224 State St.According to a news release, Truffle Pig’s menu includes Tagliatelle alla Bolognese, Branzino alla Griglia and a stuffed pasta from Bassani’s hometown, Casoncelli alla Bergamasca.
Oshkosh school district hires New London High School principal as next assistant superintendent
The Oshkosh Area School District found Julie Conrad-Peters’ replacement, staying within the state by hiring New London High School Principal Brian Yerkey as the new assistant superintendent of operations.
Yerkey’s appointment comes two months after Conrad-Peters left to become the next superintendent of Lake Wales Charter School System in Florida, ending her 33-year stint in the district.
Real estate firm buys two Caribou Coffee properties, including one in Menasha, for $2.8M
Real estate investment company Four Corners Property Trust acquired a pair of Caribou Coffee properties, including the drive-thru shop in Menasha, from Coffee Holdings for $2.8 million.
FCPT made the announcement on its website while a search of the Wisconsin Department of Revenue revealed the Menasha location was sold for $1.42 million Aug. 4.
The other property transfer didn’t turn up on the Department of Revenue pages and FCPT never disclosed the Caribou Coffee locations in its press statement.
