GRAND CHUTE – Green Bay Packers fans filled Neuroscience Group Field at Fox Cities Stadium on June 5 as members of the team took part in the annual Green Bay Charity Softball Game co-hosted by Packers stars Jordan Love and Micah Parsons.
The event is used to raise money for Love’s Hands of 10ve Foundation, which promotes physical and mental well-being for children through engagement in sports, aims to raise awareness about suicide prevention and fosters stronger relationships between law enforcement and the community, and Parsons’ Lion Heart Foundation.
Packers legend Donald Driver, who hosted the game for several years, was also in attendance to interact with fans.
“We’re here for the fans,” Love said. “Obviously, providing for the foundation and charity game that’s giving back. They love to see the players. They love to have that fan engagement. Sign autographs and have that time to meet the fans here in the summertime.”
Parsons, who’s still recovering from his torn ACL, didn’t play but handled the coaching duties for Team Defense. A job he took seriously. Even throwing ground balls to his team to warm up before the contest.
“(Jordan) was talking smack all week,” Parsons said. “First I was just ‘ha ha’ because I’m not playing, but now I’m taking it a little more seriously.
“I’m looking at it as a general manager position.”
Before the game got underway, players participated in a home run derby.
Offensive linemen performed the best. Darian Kinnard was the derby champion with four. Brant Banks came in second with three.
The game was lopsided with Team Offense winning 12-2 and taking home the WWE-style Packers belt.
“We knew they would be talking a big talk, and we backed it up on the field,” Love said after the win. ”Belt is coming home with the offense.”
