Investigation into deadly Manitowoc County collision between horse-drawn carriage and SUV is ongoing

MANITOWOC COUNTY – Manitowoc County Sheriff’s Office is still investigating a June 15 incident involving a horse-drawn carriage and an SUV near the township of Cato that led to one man’s death.

In response to an inquiry by the Herald Times Reporter July 28, a representative from the sheriff’s office said the incident was still under investigation and there was no estimate for when it would be completed.

A news release from the sheriff’s office June 16 said a 42-year-old woman from Brillion driving a 2020 GMC Terrain east on U.S. 10 struck a horse-drawn carriage also traveling east near Maertz Road mid-morning June 15.

A 27-year-old man operating the carriage and a 13-year-old passenger were both ejected from the carriage. The 27-year-old man died and the 13-year-old was transported to a medical facility by ambulance for injuries.
