How much have gas prices gone up this week in Wisconsin? See the numbers

The average price for a gallon of gas in Wisconsin has risen by nearly 50 cents from a week ago.

Oil refinery problems in Indiana and ongoing issues in the Strait of Hormuz have skyrocketed wholesale oil prices, and those costs are being passed onto consumers at the pump in the final days of April.

The average gas price in Wisconsin on Thursday, April 30 was $4.17 per gallon, according to AAA. That’s up from $3.96 the day before and up 48 cents from $3.69 a week ago.

Wisconsin has not seen gas prices get this high since 2022, following Russia’s invasion of Ukraine. The all-time average gas price record in Wisconsin was set June 12, 2022, at $4.923 per gallon.

On April 27, GasBuddy analyst Patrick De Haan warned the current spike could still go higher. It could also take weeks to smooth back out.

Other Midwest states have seen even larger average price increases compared to a week ago: Indiana rose by 84 cents, Michigan by 72 cents and Ohio by 60 cents, according to De Haan.

AAA reported the national average for gas was $4.30 a gallon as of Thursday morning.
