Thinking about imagination and internet access
Imagination is what separates our species from others on this planet.
This imagination is what sent explorers, despite great hardships, from Europe to the Americas.
This imagination is what sent my great grandfather away from the endless wars of 19th-century Europe to America.
This imagination is what sent astronauts to the moon and back again, because it was hard.
This imagination is what created the APARANET, which begat the internet we have today and yet also begat the degradation of that original Open Internet vision that now is in need of our imaginations to correct.
Can we then imagine an internet where access and affordability were the universal rights of citizens, and where and its users were protected from rapacious and predatory corporate and government data harvesting, as well as parasitic corporate and government surveillance?
Can we imagine that, as a species, we could be focused on being more than coin-operated, bipedal, carbon-based lifeforms?
Let your elected representatives know you want a decent, future-proof and affordable internet connection, and are not willing to settle for second-class citizenship.
