Here are all the weather records Milwaukee and Madison set in April

As expected after a month marked by thunderstorms, tornadoes and floods, Milwaukee blew past several weather records in April.

April 2026 was officially the wettest April on record for both Milwaukee and Madison, according to the National Weather Service, which keeps records dating back to 1871.

Milwaukee saw 9.49 inches in April, more than double the climate normal of just under 4 inches. The city’s previous record for the month was 7.38 inches in April 2013. Madison, meanwhile, logged 7.26 inches of rain in April, surpassing its previous record of 7.19 inches in April 1909.

The week of April 13, in particular, was a historic one for severe weather in Wisconsin. Tornado warnings were in place across much of southern and central Wisconsin for consecutive days, and severe thunderstorms flooded businesses, home and roadways across Milwaukee. The weather service reported that 24 tornadoes touched down across the state in April.
