A Green Bay woman pleaded no contest June 25 to delivering the fentanyl that led to a fatal overdose in 2024.
Jocelyn Shrovnal, 26, was charged with first-degree reckless homicide as a party to a crime. Shrovnal pleaded no contest to the charge June 25.
At 4:12 p.m. Oct. 14, Brown County sheriff’s deputies responded to a report of a possible overdose on Roland Lane in Howard, according to a criminal complaint. A 23-year-old man was found on the bathroom floor with a folded piece of aluminum foil containing fentanyl.
A data analysis from the victim’s phone showed communication between him and Shrovnal arranging a drug deal the day prior to his death. Shrovnal delivered fentanyl to him Oct. 13 and the following day they made an arrangement for the victim to purchase more.
Shrovnal agreed to the Oct. 14 delivery with an estimated arrival time of 2:28 p.m. The victim’s last message to Shrovnal was sent at 2:16 p.m. Shrovnal responded at 2:16 p.m. and sent more messages an hour later looking for a response.
The data from the victim’s phone showed it was last opened at 2:31 p.m. His mother found him dead at 4:12 p.m.
Shrovnal returns to court Sept. 10 to be sentenced. She is facing up to 40 years of initial confinement, however the prosecution stipulated her sentencing recommendation be capped at six years.
