Flooding June 24 in Green Bay has temporarily closed a west-side fire station but all emergency services will continue.
Station Three on Shawano Avenue had extensive water damage in the basement and first floor from heavy rainfall. Electricity was disconnected at the station and crews have been relocated to nearby fire stations.
The full extent of damage still needs to be assessed and the city has not determined a reopening date for the fire station.
The recovery process of the building is ongoing and contractors are trying to mitigate damage. Firefighters and paramedics have been moved to other stations to continue providing services in the area.
Station Three is nearly 90 years old. The city has been working to replace the building along with Station One on Washington Street with a new central city station house in the 400 block of South Broadway. The new fire station would share the space with an apartment complex.
Green Bay got 1.25 to 3.5 inches of rain in just two to three hours June 24, resulting in flooded streets, a roof collapse downtown, and many stalled vehicles. The Green Bay Metro Fire Department responded to over 40 calls in three hours, nearly all related to the storm.
Brown County, Green Bay, and Allouez officials set up a call line for Brown County residents to report damage from the storm. The lines are staffed by United Way volunteers 24/7. Resident should call 211 to make a report. Document the damage and take pictures to help with insurance claims.
