MANITOWOC – Summer is winding down and many outdoor enthusiasts in Manitowoc County are eyeing the next big season — deer hunting.
Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources has a full online guide to help hunters stay connected with regulations, season dates, education courses and more.
Bonus harvest authorizations for deer hunting are also available for all Wisconsin zones through the Wisconsin DNR.
Heare are a few things you need to know before heading into the woods, such as where to buy your hunting license and season dates.
Where can you get a deer hunting license in Wisconsin?
Hunters can purchase a deer hunting license online at dnr.wisconsin.gov.
Most hunters are required to complete a hunter education course.
According to the DNR, anyone born in 1973 or later must complete a hunter education course and have a hunter education safety certificate on file to purchase any hunting license in Wisconsin.
There are some exceptions, though. Those hunting under the hunting mentorship program do not have to complete the hunter education course first. They will be able to obtain a mentored-only hunting license and must be accompanied by a licensed hunter, hunt within arms’ reach of the mentor and follow other rules.
Those who have successfully completed basic training in the U.S. Armed Forces, Reserves or National Guard also do not need a hunter education safety certificate to purchase a hunting license.
Deer hunt for those with disabilities
For hunters interested in the gun deer hunt for hunters with disabilities, the deadline to sign up with a sponsor is Sept. 15.
The application and regulations are available online at dnr.wisconsin.gov.
