The Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources extended a statewide air quality advisory through 6 p.m. July 17, warning that particle pollution from wildfire smoke from Canada and Minnesota could continue to affect communities across Wisconsin.
As a result, many parks and pools across the Fox Cities are continuing to cancel their programs, citing unhealthy air quality.
Current air quality in the Fox Valley
According to airnow.gov, the current air quality in the Fox Valley is at 367, which is ranked at “Hazardous”.
Jason Alumbaugh, meteorologist at NWS Green Bay, made note on July 17 of what is to come this weekend and it might not be the results that people are looking for.
“Currently, according to the DNR, we are on an advisory until 6 p.m., an extension from the noon one we received yesterday,” said Alumbaugh. “There should be an improving trend in central Wisconsin and the west. However, while we will probably see a gap in that severe air quality, I am expecting that a ploom might come again into the weekend with the fires in northwestern Minnesota and Canada.”
