I recently attended the Florentine Opera’s production of Puccini’s opera Tosca (“Florentine Opera’s ‘Tosca’ both powerful and richly musical,” May 15).
It was a powerful performance with great singing and impressive sets and costumes – everything one would expect of high opera.
It made me realize how fortunate Milwaukee is to have such an outstanding local opera company. The Florentine is Milwaukee’s oldest professional performing arts organization, going back to 1933, making it the sixth oldest opera company in the country. Its continued existence and history of excellence is a tribute to the consistent leadership of its management and board of directors and the generosity of its individual donors and the United Performing Arts Fund who have contributed so generously over the years.
Milwaukee opera lovers have good reason to be proud and grateful.
