Farmer's Almanac forecast calls for mixed summer weather in Wisconsin

Wisconsin looks to be in for a mixed bag of weather, according to a new seasonal forecast from the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

The forecast calls for hotter-than-normal temperatures across most of the country this summer, especially across the southern part and eastern portion of the country. However, some areas—including the Upper Midwest and Heartland ‒ are expected to be cooler than normal or to feature more mixed patterns.

According to the Wisconsin State Climatology Office, the statewide average temperature last summer was 68 degrees, marking one of the warmest summers on record ‒ second only to 1995 ‒ running about 1.5–2 degrees above normal.

This yaer, the Almanac predicts cool, rainy conditions for southwest Wisconsin, while south‑central and southeast Wisconsin are expected to see above‑average temperatures and precipitation. By contrast, much of northern Wisconsin is expected to have a relatively cool and dry summer, according to the almanac’s forecast. Last year, Wisconsin experienced limited and moderate drought conditions in parts of the state.

Although summer is still weeks away, some areas of the state have already seen plenty of precipitation. According to the National Weather Service, April precipitation reached 6.68 inches by April 14, breaking a 97-year-old record of 6.47 inches. That makes the first four months of 2026 the wettest on record for the Green Bay area.

Heavy rainfall across some parts of the state, particularly in northeast Wisconsin, have kept farmers out of the field, delaying the planting season.
