FOND DU LAC – Father’s Day is here, and a few Fond du Lac readers have honored their dads this year.
Streetwise asked readers for their Fathers of the Year submissions, and two men stood out to their loved ones.
Mark Marion
The first submission was Mark Marion, whom Ayshah Duel said is not only a father, but also her stepfather and “the best papa, according to Denny!”
“Everyone who knows Mark knows he always has the biggest smile and is always willing to lend a helping hand,” she said. “He truly deserves recognition and to know that all his hard work does not go unnoticed.”
Butch Jahns
Joan, Dave, Tom and Patty Jahns nominated their father Butch Jahns, honoring his memory 24 years after he died.
He worked for the Fond du Lac County Highway Department, eventually “persuaded” to accept the position of foreman of the paver crew, though he was a leader among men before he even took the leadership position, they said. At work, he was described as a fun-loving, unassuming man who earned everyone’s respect leading by example.
“We admit that we are prejudiced because he was our Dad, but we, too, saw him as a very special man who was so inventive and even built us our own playground equipment,” the Jahns family said. “We do not remember him ever being grumpy or ‘having a bad day.'”
They added that they still miss him and were blessed to have him as their dad.
