Drake is definitely not a Milwaukee Bucks fan. But, it looks like the Canadian rapper-singer hasn’t written off all Wisconsin sports teams.
Drake posted photos of himself on Instagram in a vintage satin Green Bay Packers Starter jacket on Monday, April 20.
Behind him were blocks of ice on pallets, which would come together to make a ginormous ice structure in downtown Toronto.
“Release Date Inside,” Drake captioned the post with an address to the frozen installation – another promo stunt for his forthcoming album, “Iceman.”
Despite signs warning against even touching the ice spectacle, fans have been attempting to speed up the melting process, from sledgehammers to blowtorches, according to Rolling Stone.
As USA TODAY pointed out, Chicago Bears quarterback Caleb Williams has been engaged in a looming trademark spat with former San Antonio Spurs great George Gervin over the “Iceman” nickname.
With the Packers historically dominating their rivals to the south – forget last season – Drake donning Packers garb seems to send a message. Does he want “Iceman” status, too?
Or, is he trolling Williams?
Perhaps, he’s joined other artists, like Lil Wayne and Harry Styles in the Packers fandom. Could be because Lambeau Field is nicknamed the Frozen Tundra. Or maybe he just thought it was a sick jacket.
Regardless, social media has thoughts. And, quite the range of ’em.
Some have brought up the “Drake curse.” As Complex put it last year: “Legend has it, if Drake publicly backs an athlete or team, disaster ensues.” The rapper has debunked that by pointing out the Toronto Raptors’ 2019 NBA championship victory, and has even had his own fun with the superstition.
Doesn’t seem like the Packers, the Queen of the North or some fans are worried about that.
Ronika Stone Love, the wife of Packers QB Jordan Love, shared Drake’s post to her Instagram Story and wrote: “guy who knows ball”.
“nice jacket ” the Packers official Instagram account commented on Drake’s post.
The team account also posted the photos of Drake repping them to their own Instagram and X feeds, with a “hi” to the rapper.
“This solidifies him as the greatest rapper ever,” an Instagram user commented on the Packers’ post.
It’s clear some fans don’t want the risk, though.
“nah y’all gotta delete this, we have super bowls to win,” someone wrote on the Packers’ Instagram post.
“not the drake curse” another commented.
“Bad luck,” someone said.
With the well-known theory, some Bears fans are all for it. Rapper and Chicago sports fan Freddie Gibbs reposted a birds-eye video on X of Drake in the Packers jacket and wrote: “On 2nd thought, I’m actually happy he’s rocking this jacket.”
@BearsShowYo shared the video, too, and reacted with an epic sideline celebration video of New York Jets coach Aaron Glenn. The account captioned it: “Drake curse just hit the Packers omg”.
An X account that calls itself the Caleb Williams Fan Club (@CalebFC18), reposted the Packers post and wrote: “THE DRAKE CURSE IS ON GREEN BAY “.
Sports Mockery has played into the conspiracy with another take: What if Williams, a noted Drake fan, somehow baited the superstar into cursing the Packers.
We don’t know the actual story behind the jacket – yet – but hopefully it’s coming … and bodes well for the Pack.
