Good morning,
If you’re anything like me, you watched in awe on Sunday night as Puerto Rican superstar Bad Bunny put on one of the most intricate, joy-filled Super Bowl halftime shows in memory.
I’m one of those who wasn’t incredibly familiar with his music before his show, and now I’m one of those who can’t get his music or that jaw-dropping, 13-minute spectacle out of my head in the days since.
I danced from my seat on the couch, screamed when both Lady Gaga and Ricky Martin popped up on screen and exclaimed at least a half-dozen times, “I want to be there!”
I wish I were cooling off with a frozen piragua slushy or chowing down on a taco from L.A. favorite Villa’s Tacos, whose cart and owner were featured in the event after an invite from Benito (Bad Bunny’s first name) himself. I wanted to be a guest at the wedding, wanted to grab a coquito at the staged bar and, oh, did I want to be one of those now-viral dancing bushes vibing around it all.
It was an ebullient celebration of Latin American culture and a reminder of its hardships and history. And it ended with a beautiful message: all those from countries in North and South America are American.
But the spotlight was on Bad Bunny’s homeland of Puerto Rico, the U.S. territory he’s given so much to. I’ve never been there, but I’d sure like to visit. For now, I am grateful for the restaurants around Milwaukee that give us a taste of the beautiful island.
If you’re riding the wave and have gained a sudden curiosity about Puerto Rico, here are a few Milwaukee bars, restaurants and food trucks that put its food and drink at the forefront.
That’s all for now! Have a great rest of your week and a lovely Valentine’s Day weekend. (What?! It’s Valentine’s Day? Check out these Milwaukee restaurants with special Valentine’s Day menus – they might, emphasis on might, still have a reservation or two open.)
Happy dining,
Rachel
