The Green Bay Packers traded up in the third round of the 2026 NFL draft to select Missouri defensive tackle Chris McClellan.
The full trade details: the Packers sent picks No. 84 (third round) and No. 160 (fifth round) to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers for No. 77 (third round).
The Packers weren’t willing to wait on McClellan, a big defensive tackle who could help fill a massive roster hole at nose tackle.
“We really liked him,” Packers personnel executive Milt Hendrickson said. “He was a guy that we had on the board that it made a lot of sense to go get…we felt like the value matched what we were willing to give up.”
The Packers sacrificed one of their two fifth-round picks, meaning they’ll go into Day 3 with only five more picks to make.
“A pick is just a pick until it becomes a player,” Hendrickson said. “When we have a player we really, really liked and an opportunity presented itself to go get him, that’s what Brian decided to do.”
This appears to be a fair trade. By the Rich Hill trade value chart, the Packers gave up 61 points of value (51 points for No. 84, 10 for No. 160) to get 60 points of value (60 points for No. 77). By the Jimmy Johnson model, the Packers gave up 197.4 points of value to get 205 points of value.
