Brey resigned from the seat July 9, prior to his appointment as Manitowoc County treasurer. He was expected to serve as treasurer until the next regular election in November 2028.

Brey died Aug. 12 in a single-vehicle car crash on South 26th Street in Manitowoc.

The Manitowoc County Board is now looking for candidates to fill the treasurer’s position through the rest of the term.

People interested in being considered for the job should submit a letter of interest and résumé to County Board Chairman Tyler Martell at tylermartell@manitowoccountywi.gov by Sept. 3.

Applications can also be submitted on the website for Manitowoc County, manitowoccountywi.gov, by clicking “Employment.”
