A 61-year-old woman was found dead the morning of Aug. 19 in the water off Peninsula State Park in Door County, according to the Door County Sheriff’s Office.
The sheriff’s office was notified at 8:13 a.m. about a body seen in the waters of Nicolet Bay near the park’s North Nicolet Bay Campground.
Emergency personnel from the sheriff’s office, Door County Emergency Services, the Gibraltar and Ephraim fire department and Wisconsin Department of Natural Resources responded to the call and found the body upon arrival.
The person who died has been identified, but her identity isn’t being released pending notification of family. The incident is under investigation.
The park remained open to visitors, although the news release added that officials are encouraging park visitors to be cautious and well-prepared when exploring remote or rugged areas of the park.
