Bitsy Palicka of Sussex Hamilton softball was the winner of the Milwaukee Journal Sentinel Piggly Wiggly high school athlete of the week poll from June 8 to June 13.
The sophomore pitched every inning in Hamilton’s run to its first Division 1 state title in program history, including the Chargers’ 8-3 victory over Muskego in the title game where she struck out six with just four hits allowed. Hamilton outscored its six tournament opponents overall by 39 runs (44-5), while Palicka struck out 29 total hitters in three starts during the state tournament.
Palicka received 4,447 of 6,130 total votes cast.
University School of Milwaukee senior Darcy Doyle was the runner-up in last week’s poll. The Northwestern commit had seven goals in USM’s 12-11 loss to Hudson in the WIAA state girls lacrosse championship in Sun Prairie on June 13.
Other nominees included Grant Schaefer of Whitefish Bay boys tennis, Max Neumann of Lake Country Lutheran boys golf and Jonathan Amtmann of Arrowhead boys golf.
