Deputies on the scene determined at least nine vehicles headed eastbound were involved in the crash.

Another crash involving six vehicles occurred west of the first crash site when officials closed down the area and redirected traffic.

The first crash scene resulted in serious life-threatening injuries.

The site is being investigated, but officials said initial information indicates a vehicle was crossing State 23 at Sunset Road in heavy fog when visibility was less than one-tenth of a mile.
