Apparent Lake Michigan drowning near Bay View Park under investigation

The apparent drowning of a man near Bay View Park is under investigation by the Milwaukee County Sheriff’s Office.

The sheriff’s office received a call at 9:42 a.m. Aug. 15 from a person saying he could see someone in Lake Michigan roughly 30 feet from the shoreline who appeared to be floating face down, said James Burnett, the office’s director of public affairs and community engagement.

Emergency responders recovered the man and performed CPR and other life-saving measures, Burnett said. The man, who’s not yet been identified, was pronounced dead at 10:15 a.m.

The incident remains under investigation.
