A beagle named Lambeau, one of the original 1,500 beagles in the sale from Ridglan Farms in late April, is now available for adoption from the Green Bay Humane Society.
Lambeau is a three-year-old male who weighs 22 pounds, according to his adoption profile. His adoption fee is $299. While he can’t be in a home with other dogs, said Wisconsin Humane Society representative Corey Viars, “he’s an absolute sweetie pie.”
As of June 4, Lambeau is the only Ridglan Farms beagle available at the Green Bay campus, but five other Ridglan dogs were also listed for adoption at other Wisconsin Humane Society sites, Viars said.
The most recent beagle purchase comes after animal rights activists raided Ridglan Farms, a beagle breeding facility in Blue Mounds, in March and April. Ridglan Farms initially sold 1,500 of the beagles to rescue organizations April 29, with 45 arriving in Green Bay in May. The beagles have drawn national attention and donations from around the country and world, Viars said.
In the meantime, while Ridglan Farms has denied any wrongdoing, the organization has agreed to surrender its state dog breeding license by July 1, 2026 to avoid prosecution.
Since the Ridglan beagles first arrived at Wisconsin Humane Society locations, the organization has adopted out 103, Viars said. Other beagles are awaiting surgery or living in foster homes, learning how to behave like dogs after spending their entire lives in kennels. “We’re really rooting for them,” Viars said.
According to a May 13 statement from the Wisconsin Humane Society, the dogs have “zero experience living as companions; they arrived shut down, shaking, and even drooling out of stress. Anyone looking to adopt one of these pups must be prepared to take things incredibly slow and give them all the time they need to adjust.”
Adoptions in general are first-come, first serve, Viars said. Anyone interested in adopting or fostering should fill out an adoption profile on the Humane Society website. He also encouraged people who want to help in other ways to donate to the Wisconsin Humane Society.
