A 17-year-old has been charged with three counts of reckless homicide after a Milwaukee police chase Sept. 16 ended in a crash that killed a mother and her two sons.
Prosecutors charged 17-year-old Dashauna C. Egerson with nine felony counts, including three counts of second-degree reckless homicide, in connection with the deaths of 50-year-old Pler Moo and her two sons, 21-year-old Moo Nay Taw and 15-year-old Kar Lah Kri Moo.
Egerson was also charged with three counts of causing the death of another person while evading an officer and three counts of causing the death of another person while operating a vehicle without a valid license.
The criminal complaint, filed Sept. 21 in Milwaukee County Circuit Court, said Milwaukee police officers started a pursuit after observing Egerson’s car speeding on West Center Boulevard on Sept. 16.
When the officers caught up to the car and turned on their emergency lights to conduct a traffic stop, the car instead sped up and fled, according to the complaint.
The complaint said Egerson’s car disregarded multiple stop signs while southbound on North 35th Street, went through a red traffic light at about 9:37 p.m. and hit Pler Moo’s car, which was westbound on West Vliet Street, going through the intersection on a green light.
Two other passengers in the car survived but suffered severe injuries, according to the complaint. A 16-year-old in the defendant’s car also sustained injuries in the crash.
Egerson was traveling at about 70 mph just before the crash, according to the complaint. The speed limit along North 35th Street is 30 mph.
Egerson told police the passenger in her car, 19-year-old Trevon L. Loston, had initially been driving but switched places with her, the complaint said. When she saw a police car flick its lights, Loston told her to flee because the vehicle was stolen.
Egerson told police she continued to drive after Loston pointed a gun at her during the pursuit. When she saw Moo’s vehicle approaching, she said she pushed the accelerator harder because she knew they were going to crash, the complaint said.
Loston was charged Sept. 19 with three felony counts related to the incident, according to the complaint. Those charges include bail jumping, possession of a firearm as an adjudicated delinquent and operating a vehicle without consent of the owner.
Nine people have been killed in Milwaukee police chases so far in 2025.
