Woman killed in fiery crash

An Abilene woman was killed in a Callahan County crash Sunday night, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a media release.

Madison Eleni Shults, 26, was pronounced deceased at the scene of the one-vehicle crash about 100 miles northeast of San Angelo, according to the DPS.

The preliminary investigation indicates Shults was driving a 2003 Chevrolet Cavalier west on State Highway 36 near milepost 317 in Callahan County around 9:25 p.m., the DPS said.

The vehicle left the roadway to the right and traveled through the north ditch, striking a barbed-wire fence, several trees and large rocks before catching fire, the report stated.

Weather conditions were cloudy and road conditions were dry, the DPS said. The driver was wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash.
