Woman dies in golf cart accident

A 62-year-old woman died in a golf cart accident Saturday in Brown County, the Texas Department of Public Safety said in a media release.

A preliminary investigation found that Laquetta Ann Day of Brownwood was driving a 2024 Taizhou Nebula Power Co. golf cart styled as an off-highway vehicle about 9:01 p.m. Saturday northbound on FM Road 585, the DPS said in a media release. The one-vehicle accident happened about 8 miles north of Grosvenor community.

The driver was on the wrong side of the road in a no-passing zone, the DPS said. She steered abruptly to the right, causing the golf cart to roll over in the northbound lane.

Not wearing a seatbelt, she was ejected from the vehicle, the DPS said.

Someone passing by discovered the golf cart rolled over on the driver’s side in the northbound lane and the driver pinned beneath it, the DPS said. She was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The DPS said in the media release that alcohol is believed to have been a contributing factor to the crash.
