Wichita Falls ISD showed improvement in its latest accountability ratings from the Texas Education Association.
The TEA grades schools and districts annually on an A through F scale and released its 2026 figures on Friday, Aug. 14.
The district posted on its Facebook page that the number of D/F campuses has decreased from 12 to 4 since 2023 while the number of A/B campuses rose from 4 to 8.
“For the first time since Texas began using the A-F accountability rating system, every WFISD middle school and high school is rated C or better,” the district’s post said.
Two schools received top grades of A while one failed.
Overall, WFISD rated a C grade across areas of student achievement, school progress, academic growth, relative performance and “Closing the Gaps.”
Superintendent Donny Lee attributed the improvement to teachers and principals becoming more comfortable with curriculum changes that have occurred over the past couple of years.
“No. 2 reason would be just a strong focus on what good instruction looks like,” he said. “ Our academic team understands what that is and so do our teachers.”
He said a higher grade at Hirschi Middle School was due largely to the district’s partnership with Third Future Schools. Academic problems at that school put WFISD at risk of a state takeover without improvements.
“They’re two points away from a B. That just hits a homerun,” Lee said.
He said the district’s new high schools, Memorial and Legacy, had poor showings their first year of accountability ratings because of a lag in data reporting, but both had improvement this year.
“I’m just very proud of our staff and our team,” Lee said. “We’re going to focus on getting a couple of points better every year.”
Here are the overall grades for each WFISD campus:
The Wichita County Juvenile Justice program was not included in the accountability ratings.
